Grinder Performance

For the 1100 usd early KS, this was a steal. I've been enjoying it for the past two months. Medium to dark roasts are fine on the grinder. Not a user of light roasts, but Meraki have video guide to adjust the burrs, so it may be possible to dial it as well.
For the repairability I am hoping the machine will last. In the case of any issue popping up I would definitely send it back to one of their repair centers, while its still under warranty. Tom's teardown didn't look too frightening, so I believe making some tinkering myself after the warranty wouldn't be impossible.
The NFC feature is actually pretty cool. Someone on the fb owners group already made a tool which lets you make your own nfc tags. Great for quick profile swapping.

3 weeks agoGreat review as usual! I was sceptic of this all in one, as we all preach, always better to go individual and it looks like it's been proven once again. Amazing machine for the price but if I were to buy one it would have to get rid of the grinder first. The smaller footprint would be a bonus.
Customer Support & Service

I backed this project on Indiegogo and received my machine about 2 months ago. I do like it better than the Breville and it ticks off most of the boxes I want for a efficient yet engaging home espresso machine, but I also have a hard time recommending it to people because of their terrible customer service. My machine came with a few problems and Meraki's customer service has been:
1. Slow and unresponsive
2. Does not offer good resolutions
3. Rude

3 weeks agoHey Lance, thanks for the shout out! I was curious when you were going to review this machine, and I’ve come to a lot of the same conclusions. I wish that they would have done something to make the insertion of the portafilter nicer. If they wanted to stick with stainless steel on stainless steel, they could’ve installed a Teflon shim, like the DeLonghi boiler machines.
As far as longevity is concerned, I’ve seen forum entries on the Internet, where when people have problems, they are sent spare parts and videos, and are often asked to do the repairs themselves. So while I think this is a very cool machine, until they get service centers established, it’s more recommendable to handy people who don’t mind fixing it themselves if need be.
Thanks for the video!

3 weeks agoI like my espresso setups like my hifi setups. Separates above all-in-one.

3 weeks agoBasically what machines like this show us is that some features many associate with premium costs do not actually cost that much to include. For the longest time PID control was premium and we had to pay a lot extra for the full control we have now and the same is true of rotary pumps. Flow control and preinfusion are more of the same. There is no great difference in cost but the industry has trained buyers otherwise and successfully played on their egos.
